Oonya Kempadoo is an internationally published and acclaimed author, born in England of Guyanese parents, who has lived most of her life in the Caribbean region. Oonya’s first novel, Buxton Spice was long listed for the Orange prize, went on to being published in five foreign languages and is used in universities and colleges worldwide, including the University of the West Indies. Tide Running, Kempadoo’s second novel, won a Casa de Las Americas prize. Kempadoo was named a “Great Talent for the 21st Century” by the Orange Prize judges. She is currently working on her third novel, All Decent Animals which is contracted to Picador UK and FSG in the US.
Kempadoo is a creative practitioner with a keen interest in human and personal development. She also works as a consultant to international organizations, NGO’s, private sector and youth groups focusing on social development.
